The Trump administration on Sunday outlined immigration principles and policies that it wants Congress to prioritize. The proposals are filed under three categories — border security, interior enforcement and merit-based immigration series.

While the proposals are broad, some of them include to "elevate the threshold standard of proof in credible fear interviews" and impose penalties for "frivolous" or "baseless" asylum applications. The latter section goes on to suggest expedited removal for asylum seekers who file such applications. Read more here.


Five CAPS counselors hired

CAPS is located in the IU Health Center on North Jordan Avenue. The program recently added five new counselors to keep up with student diversity and increased mental health needs. Emily Eckelbarger


IU Counseling and Psychological Services recently hired 5 new counselors, bringing their staff to 25 total counselors. 

Pete Grogg, executive director of the IU Health Center, said that on college campuses across the United States, students are asking for increased mental health resources. He said many schools are responding by hiring more counselors.

“It begs the question, what's Indiana going to do?” Grogg said. “And I think adding more counselors was part of the solution, but I think it's more complex than that. There's other things we need to be doing.” Read more here.


Former IU football player arrested

D'Angelo M. Roberts, 25, former running back for the IU football team, is currently being held at the Monroe County Jail on preliminary felony charges of burglary with a deadly weapon, armed robbery and theft. Roberts, a graduate of Bloomington High School North, is being held on a $30,000 surety bond and a $2,000 cash bond.

Former IU football player D’Angelo Roberts was arrested Sunday night in Bloomington after a warrant was issued for his arrest on July 20. Roberts was wanted on preliminary felony charges of burglary with a deadly weapon, armed robbery and theft. Read more here.


Jacobs performance

The Jacobs School of Music presented Jazz at the BCT: Latin Jazz Ensemble on Oct. 9. The concert took place at the Buskrik-Chumley Theater and featured the Latin American Ensemble, as well as Michael Spiro, Wayne Wallace and Joe Galvin as directors. Read more here.
