Former IU offensive lineman Dan Feeney was drafted into the National Football League on Friday night.
The Los Angeles Chargers selected Feeney with the 71st overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. He was the seventh selection in the third round.
Feeney was the first IU football player taken in the 2017 NFL Draft, and his selection marks the fourth consecutive year IU has had a player taken in the first three rounds of the draft.
Entering his senior season in 2016, Feeney had started all 37 games of his career at right guard. However, Feeney only started four games at right guard in 2016 in addition to five starts at right tackle.
He was named to the Associated Press All-American first team the past two seasons and was a team captain for IU in both 2015 and 2016.
Feeney allowed just two sacks in his 46 career starts.
It is the third time the Chargers organization has drafted a player from IU. Quarterback Trent Green was also taken by the team in 1993.
Seven IU football players have been drafted since 2014.
