Indiana among states urged to watch for suspect in filmed Cleveland murder

Region Filler

Authorities are still seeking a man who allegedly killed an elderly man Sunday in Cleveland and have warned residents of surrounding states, including Indiana, to be on the lookout for the suspected murderer.

Steve Stephens, 37, allegedly shot Robert Godwin Sr., 74, as the older man collected aluminum cans. Stephens then posted a video of the apparently random incident to Facebook, according to Associated Press reports.

Early Monday morning, Cleveland Division of Police warned residents of Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania and New York to keep an eye out for Stephens. Philadelphia police locked down schools in the city Monday afternoon after several reports of sightings there, but authorities said there are no indications Stephens is in the state.

CNN reported Stephens’s mother told her he’d started shooting people because he was angry at his girlfriend. In the video, he mentions an ex-girlfriend’s name before shooting Godwin.
