IU hires new quarterbacks coach

Sports Filler

Central Michigan running backs coach Nick Sheridan will be IU’s next quarterbacks coach. The move comes just one day after former IU quarterbacks coach Shawn Watson left the position for the offensive coordinator job at Pitt, Central Michigan confirmed to the Indiana Daily Student Friday afternoon.

Sheridan accepted the job at Central Michigan in January after working three years as a graduate assistant at Tennessee — which included working with new IU offensive coordinator Mike DeBord for two years.

Sheridan also worked for Oregon head coach Willie Taggart at Western Kentucky as quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator. Taggart was the head coach at South Florida during IU Coach Tom Allen’s tenure as defensive coordinator for the Bulls.

The quarterbacks coach walked on to Michigan’s roster in Rich Rodriguez’s first season as Michigan’s head coach in 2008. Sheridan recorded a total of 701 yards passing with two touchdowns and six interceptions at Michigan.

IU still has one offensive coaching position to fill, as former offensive line coach Greg Frey left for Michigan in January.
