IU softball announced two new staff roles Wednesday, as former players Michelle Huber and Amanda Wagner were named graduate assistant and volunteer assistant coach, respectively.

Huber played for the Hoosiers from 2013 to 2016 and graduated in May after finishing second on the team in home runs last season with six. According to a press release from IU, she will pursue her master’s degree in sports marketing.

Wagner is also an IU alumna and played for IU Coach Michelle Gardner from 2010 to 2013. She has been serving on the coaching staff since 2013 as both a graduate and student assistant, making this upcoming season her eighth consecutive one with the program.

Wagner led the team in hits her senior season with 55 and batted .423 with four home runs and 25 RBI’s in 51 games.

“Eight years ago, I committed to Indiana and truly believed in Coach Gardner’s vision for this program,” Wagner said in the press release. “I am very excited to step into this new role as a volunteer assistant and help continue to grow the program.”

Gardner said in the release Wagner’s knowledge of the game of softball and passion for IU’s program will be a tremendous addition to the staff as a volunteer assistant. Gardner also said Huber knows what it means to be a softball player at IU, and that she will assist mainly with day-to-day operations of the program.
