The cars of five Bloomington women were broken into early Sunday morning.
The driver’s side rear windows of two cars parked in the 400 block of E. Melrose Avenue were punched out, Bloomington Police Department Captain Steve Kellams said.
A backpack in one car, a 2009 Honda Fit belonging to a 19-year-old woman, had been looked through, but nothing was taken, Kellams said.
A blue canvas bag in the other car, a 2006 Ford Fusion belonging to a 23-year-old woman, was taken and later found in nearby shrubbery, Kellams said. Nothing was taken from the bag.
On the 800 block of S. Fess Ave., the front door window of a 27-year-old woman’s 2008 Nissan was broken, Kellams said. Nothing was missing from the car.
The passenger’s side window of a 20-year-old woman’s 2009 Hyundai was broken on the 400 block of S. Dunn St., Kellams said. A wallet, a debit card and a small amount of cash were taken.
At the 400 block E. Southern Drive, a 37-year-old man found a purse and its contents in his front yard. The owner of the purse was a 27-year-old woman, whose 2010 Hyundai was broken into from the front door window, Kellams said. After retrieving the purse and its contents, nothing from the car was missing.
“When you look at the location and manner in which they were broken into, the thefts were probably perpetrated by the same individual,” Kellams said.
There are no arrests yet in any of the five cases, Kellams said.
Kellams urged individuals to keep any valuable items in a car hidden from view.
