Attempted burglary reported during spring break

A crime alert was released 4 p.m. Monday, which reported an attempted burglary and attempted forcible entry during spring break.

There was an attempt to force the door in a Ballantine Hall computer lab sometime between March 11 and 18, IU Police Department Capt. Andy Stephenson said.

The crime alert was released through IU Notify, according to Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act policies. The crime was reported to IUPD by an IU employee.

The attempt to enter the computer lab appeared unsuccessful, Stephenson said.

“It was spring break, so everything was locked up,” he said.

There is no suspect in the case so far.

The crime alert released through IU Notify urged individuals to keep doors and windows locked and valuables out of sight to prevent any further burglary attempts.
