Parsons, Governor, and Others to Attend Little 500 Bicycle Race
The list of persons well known in racing circles who plan to attend the Little 500 in Memorial Stadium Saturday is growing. Johnny Parsons, winner of the 1950 Indianapolis Motor Speedway Classic will be on hand for the 50-mile bicycle race, which will get underway at 1 p.m.
The speedster from Van Nuys, Calif., who placed second in his first Indianapolis appearance in 1949, and went back to win the race the next year, has been named honorary chairman of the Bloomington Bicycle Board.
‘Big Brass’
Speedway “big brass” ns well as Gov. Henry F. Schricker and Lt. Gov. John A. Watkins will he here for the race ‘’to help those who help themselves.”
Wilber Shaw, w, president of the Speedway, and Tony Hulman, owner, who were here last year to set the wheels of the first Little 500 in motion, will return this year.
Seth Klein, starter of the Speedway Classic, will be the official starter for the Little 500 Mr. Klein was on campus during part of the qualifications this year.
Col. Arthur Harrington, chairman of the contest board of the American Auto Association, will also be in Bloomington for the race, as will K. B. Elliott, executive vice president or the Studebaker Corporation.
Open House
Pres. H. B Wells will entertain the out of-town guests and Bloomington sponsors at an open house late Friday afternoon.
The social events preceding the race will include an open house for the out-of-town guests, sponsors, and members of the I.U. Foundation student committee. The open house will be at the Sigma Alpha Epsilon house.
