?AIDS Walk fundraiser to take place Friday

Just weeks after several Indiana counties have declared states of emergency due to HIV outbreaks, the Bloomington AIDS Walk will raise money for Positive Link on Friday, April 10.

Positive Link is a health service center dedicated to the treatment and prevention of HIV and AIDS. It is one of three services dedicated to the illnesses in Southern Indiana.

Recently, the Community AIDS Action Group of South Central Indiana posted on their Facebook that Positive Link is in a time of crisis.

“Positive Link sees approximately 5 to 7 new HIV cases per year,” wrote the group on its Facebook page. “Since March, staff members are diagnosing 2-4 HIV cases per week.”

The financial goal of the fundraiser is $15,000. Among this year’s sponsors are the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender and Reproduction, the School of Public and Environment Affairs and Hoosier Heights, an indoor rock climbing facility. This year marks the twelfth year of the AIDS walk.
