Man on heroin reports sexual assault

The Bloomington Police Department is investigating a sexual assault that was reported at about 6 p.m. Saturday, Capt. Joe Qualters said. BPD received a call from someone at Advanced Auto Parts on 302 S. Cory Lane after a male subject reportedly entered the store and indicated he had been shooting heroin.

The man reportedly appeared to be under the influence when officers arrived at the store and interacted with him.

He told officers a second male subject had forced him to take heroin and an unknown pill and that he “felt like he was going to die,” Capt. Qualters said. The man told officers he had woken up with a syringe in his left arm that had an unknown substance in it and that his pants were at his ankles. He reportedly told officers he felt he had been sexually assaulted. Capt. Qualters said the incident likely took place at an apartment on the west side of Bloomington near Advanced Auto Parts.

The man was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital and had several verbal and emotional outbursts while being transported, Capt. Qualters said. The man became uncooperative at the hospital and refused to have a sexual assault kit completed. He indicated he would speak with an officer at another date.

Officers discovered the man had an outstanding warrant from Owen County, and he was transported to the Monroe County Jail.
