First Republican in 8 years announces mayoral candidacy

John Turnbull, sports manager for the City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation, announced his desire to run for mayor in the 2015 election. He has not formally filed yet.

Turnbull said he would run as a Republican. If he files in time, he will be the first Republican to run for mayor of the City of Bloomington since 2007.

Three Democratic candidates have filed to run: city council member and senior lecturer at the Kelley School of Business Darryl Neher, professional writer John Linnemeier and Maurer School of Law lecturer and former mayoral candidate John Hamilton.

All candidates are vying for Mayor Mark Kruzan’s seat after it was announced in November that he would not seek a fourth term.

The deadline for candidates to file is noon Friday.
