Linnemeier files for mayor

Bloomington now has its third candidate for mayor.

John Linnemeier filed his candidacy Friday, ?Jan. 16.

Linnemeier, who is currently out of the country and could not be reached for comment, is a professional writer and the author of “How an Average Man Lived an Adventurous Life.”

A Democrat and veteran of the Vietnam War according to his Amazon biography, Linnemeier is the latest candidate to file after Bloomington City Council Member Darrly Neher announced his candidacy for mayor Jan. 15 and John Hamilton, who previously ran in 2011, announced his candidacy Jan. 12.

Current Mayor Mark Kruzan announced in November he would not run for a fourth term in 2015 and has given his endorsement to Neher.

In addition to his endorsement from Kruzan, Neher has also received endorsements from Rep. Matt Pierce, D-Bloomington, and Monroe County Council member Shelli Yoder.

As of now, no Republicans have filed their candidacy for mayor, and no Republican has run since 2007, when David Sabbagh challenged Kruzan.

According to his blog, Linnemeier has written for The Ryder, Sant Nikranari, Inside Magazine and Panorama, a Dutch magazine.
