A crime alert has been issued for the IU Bloomington campus.
An attempted robbery was reported at 11:44 a.m. at the south end of McNutt Quad parking lot, according to the report.
A student walking across the McNutt parking lot was approached by a man who attempted to rob him of his headphones with a knife at about 11:15 a.m. today, said Lieutenant Munroe of the IUPD.
Munroe said the student had been listening to music when he arrived near the dumpsters in the lot. It was then that a man wearing a gray hoodie, gray sweatpants and sunglasses approached him and pulled a knife out from underneath his hoodie, demanding that the victim hand over his Beats headphones.
The victim gave a description of a white male, 5’ 10” and with no facial hair, Munroe said.
Munroe said that the victim did not see the knife in its entirety, but he did see that it had a wooden handle and a metal blade.
He was last seen running westbound in the area of 14th Street and Walnut Grove Avenue after a car pulled into the parking lot, Munroe said. The suspect was unable to complete the robbery and left without taking the headphones.
He said the victim took about 20 minutes to call IUPD after the attempted robbery.
“It is an active case,” Munroe said.
