Senior Brian MacLafferty, 21, died Wednesday

A senior member of the IU Delta Chi fraternity died unexpectedly Wednesday.

While no foul play is expected in the death of 21-year-old Brian MacLafferty, Monroe County Coroner Nicole Meyer could not be reached Friday morning or afternoon.

The fraternity, offering its condolences, confirmed Friday in a tweet that MacLafferty passed away.

"The university is saddened to learn of the tragic death of Brian MacLafferty," IU spokesperson Mark Land said. "His loss diminishes the entire IU Bloomington community and our deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends."

MacLafferty was a 2011 graduate of Lawrence Central High School where he was a member of the Lawrence Central High School band, according to an obituary published by Shirley Brothers Mortuaries and Crematory.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sept. 16 at New Hope Presbyterian Church, 12550 Brooks School Road in Fishers, Ind. Funeral services will take place Sept. 17 at the church, according to the obituary.
