Man dies from heroin overdose

A 29-year-old man died from a heroin overdose Sunday.

City police, firefighters and IU Health Bloomington Hospital personnel responded to the 2400 block of East Third Street to the report of an unconscious male, Bloomington Police Department Sgt. Joe Crider said.

A 21-year-old man told police a 29-year-old man visited him in an apartment and the two had both injected heroin. He also said the two had taken Xanax.

The 21-year-old man told police he tried to resuscitate the 29-year-old man, Crider said.

Upon arrival, medical personnel attempted to resuscitate the man.

The man could not be resuscitated and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The deceased man’s name cannot be made public until next of kin has been notified.

Police are actively investigating the incident with no further information available as of press time Sunday.
