Man arrested for battery, cocaine possession

A Bloomington man allegedly punched a woman’s tooth out and strangled her until she passed out.

Xavier Stoutermire, 37, was arrested by city police Saturday on preliminary charges of criminal confinement, strangulation, domestic battery, possession of cocaine and violating probation.

The 34-year-old woman told police Stoutermire struck her in the face, stomach and choked her neck after the two had been drinking and returned to a residence in the 900 block of South Washington Street, Bloomington Police Department Sgt. Joe Crider said.

The woman said she ran away to her mother’s after Stoutermire passed out from intoxication. She said she was encouraged to report the incident to police.

Police found Stoutermire in the 900 block of South Washington Street, Crider said. The officers noticed blood on Stoutermire’s shirt.

Stoutermire told police the blood was from a nosebleed and denied physically harming the 34-year-old woman.

Police located three rock-like substances on Stoutermire’s person, which later tested positive for cocaine.

Stoutermire pled guilty to possession of narcotics, a class A felony, in 2008. The Monroe County Circuit Court sentenced Stoutermire to 10 years of probation.

Stoutermire is unable to post bail because of his probation violation.
