The Indiana Department of Transportation recently awarded a $3.2 million contract to Weddle Brothers Highway Group of Bloomington for construction of a roundabout at the junction of West 17th Street, North Monroe Street and Arlington Road.
Partial funding is being provided by the City of Bloomington because the Local Public Agency is sponsoring this intersection improvement project, according to an INDOT press release.
The roundabout is set to be complete by Nov. 1. The contract allows the contractor to close the intersection to traffic for up to 120 days.
Weddle is responsible for full-depth pavement construction of the roundabout and its street approaches, sidewalks with ADA-compliant ramps, multi-purpose bike and pedestrian paths, lighting, landscaping, water main section, sanitary sewer, storm sewer and drainage system.
The Federal Highway Administration pays 80 percent of LPA project costs. As LPA sponsor, the City of Bloomington is responsible for 20 percent in matching funds.
American Structurepoint of Indianapolis designed the project and is providing on-site engineering supervision.
