Karen Stone, wife of stalwart universal health care advocate physician Rob Stone, has it right again.
Expansion of Medicare can be the best way out of this medical morass we are in.
It’s the early 1960s. I’m working as a health care claims examiner for a company on North Meridian in Indianapolis.
Our CEO calls us to a meeting.
“What can we do about this new government-run program called Medico, Medicall, Medicare or something or other?” he asks.
There was a long silence, then one of us spoke up.
“Not to worry. The way those old folks suck up benefits, we would do well to pass on this coverage. The program will die on this vine in a few years.”
This seemed to satisfy our CEO and everyone else.
We went back to work.
Now look.
Almost 50 years later, don’t even try to take Medicare away from senior
citizens.
If it works for us, think of how much easier it would be to work for all those under age 65 with a far better medical cost experience.
