The City of Bloomington has changed its official trick-or-treating hours to 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 1 due to possible severe weather.
Each Halloween in Bloomington during trick-or-treating hours, registered sex offenders being overseen by the Monroe Circuit Court Probation Department are required to attend a meeting at the Charlotte T. Zietlow Justice Center.
This meeting has been moved to Nov. 1 to coincide with the new hours.
The Probation Department is also working with the Bloomington Parole District to more closely watch sex offenders on Halloween.
Some sex offenders are allowed to stay at their residence during trick-or-treating hours, but they must turn off their outside lights and refrain from displaying Halloween decorations.
“For events such as this, it is important that law enforcement agencies work together to promote public safety,” said Michael Rodriguez, Bloomington Parole District supervisor.
“Operation Safe Halloween allows our parole agents to more effectively monitor sex offenders and give parents in our community some peace of mind on what should be a fun family holiday.”
