Re: "Blurred Lines" columns

I am writing in response to the articles that have published in the past two weeks about the concern over the song selections the band performed at the Missouri game.
I in no way intend to offend anyone who has also been following these articles, and my argument is pointed at no one in particular.

I am a member of the Marching Hundred and have personally been assaulted, so I definitely can relate to this article in a way that maybe is lost to Ms. Rachael Amick. I simply wanted to put into perspective a different point of view other than pointing fingers at Marching Hundred as being a shady organization for our song selections.
I am also in no way reflecting the views of Dr. David Woodley, nor any other member of the Hundred staff.

I am simply writing to show a member’s perspective.

Before each marching season, every member of Marching Hundred is sent an email in regard to what music we would like to perform during the school year. I have been suggesting a John Mellencamp tribute for three years, and not once has it been chosen as a half time show. I say this to shed light on the fact that Marching Hundred members in no way have a direct choice in what is actually performed. We are simply asked in order to get an idea of what is interesting to our culture today.
The songs that were chosen, in my personal opinion, were not performed to support sexual assault, nor to belittle any audience member or group that fights against such cases.

Believe me, sexual assault is an unimaginably devastating hardship to have to go through because of all the emotional struggles you face.
But being a Marching Hundred member, we go out there every week to give people happiness. And I speak for myself and no one else in saying that if that message was taken the wrong way, I am sorry.

However, I joined Marching Hundred to be a part of something bigger than me, and I fully intend to be a member until I graduate. I have never felt threatened, humiliated or victimized by being a member of Marching Hundred because that is not the goal of the organization. We are there to entertain people and to give them the game day experience they are expecting.

I want to point out, while you are insinuating unreasonable accusations toward an organization that has no intention of promoting sexual assault, you fail to recognize that you are not looking at all perspectives of the situation.

You are basing your opinion solely on your own views and lack the conceptual ability to understand that maybe you are offending the members of Marching Hundred while you write you are just trying to help victims.

This is solely my perspective. Do with it what you will.
