Suspect arrested following bank robbery

A man was arrested following a robbery Monday at Peoples State Bank on East Winslow Road in Bloomington.

Christopher Sowers, 33, was arrested and charged with two counts of robbery, a class C felony, and a charge of resisting law enforcement.

The same bank was robbed at about 10:30 a.m. last Thursday, Sept. 5, and there were similarities in the manner of which both events took place including suspect descriptions, according to a news release from the Bloomington Police Department.

Sowers was arrested for both robberies.

Officers were dispatched at about 1 p.m. on a report that the bank was being robbed. The suspect, described as a white male who had his hand under his Superman t-shirt as if concealing a weapon, fled the scene after committing the robbery, according to the release.

No actual weapon was displayed and no one was injured in the incident..

A responding officer observed someone matching the suspect description running into a wooded area near Graham Drive north of the bank. Additional officers set up a perimeter in the area of the Winslow Farms subdivision and the suspect was taken into custody on Laurelwood Court at about 1:18 p.m.
