Parking at IU will remain a University service for now. The Board of Trustees announced its still considering privatizing the enforcement of parking permits.
The board also discussed University finances, enrollment and facility renovations when it met Thursday at the IUPUI Campus Center.
Finance and Audit Committee member Joan Hagen said the University has been experiencing a loss in attendance, but that campus management has been “proactive in getting ahead of these kinds of situations.”
The committee also discussed concerns about the decrease in enrollment at the School of Law and Jacobs School of Music. Increasing financial aid might solve the problem, that's how the law school combated shrinking enrollment, board member Frances McCourt said.
Next, McCourt presented a plan to proactively counter monetary pressures by focusing on cost containment, alternate revenue streams and business analytics.
“We’re trying to take an appropriate view of the future,” McCourt said at the meeting.
Additionally, all action plans were approved, including the amendment to the IU retirement plan.
The Facilities Committee met to review current projects and those in planning stages.
IU Communications representative Ryan Piurek said Rose Avenue Residence Hall is almost finished — students can move in later this month — and the Jacobs Schools of Music Studio Building is also nearing completion.
Piurek said all project approvals were granted, including the renovation of IU Bloomington’s Wells Library Learning Commons, which will be receiving new carpet and furniture.
The Trustees meeting continued into today, with the Academic Affairs and External Relations Committee meeting from 8:30 to11:00 a.m. at the IUPUI Campus Center.
