Highway construction to stop for weekend

The Indiana Department of Transportation will be halting most highway construction and maintenance actives today to accommodate Labor Day weekend traffic.

INDOT usually lessens driving restrictions during times when many cars are on the road to increase mobility and safety.

The Department also warns travelers to be on the lookout for drunk drivers and notify police of haphazard driving, according to an INDOT press release. Troopers will be implementing sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols, zeroing in on drivers under the influence.

“The purpose of the enforcement campaign is to remove impaired drivers from Indiana roadways before they cause needless pain, suffering or death to innocent victims,” according to the release.
