The original prow from the battleship USS Indiana was delivered to Memorial Stadium Thursday, where it awaits sandblasting, priming and repainting.
The prow will be officially welcomed Sept. 7 with a rededication ceremony when IU plays Navy in a home football game.
It will be displayed outside the stadium’s west entrance along with the ship’s mainmast and two of its gun mounts, which have been on display since May 1966.
The USS Indiana served in the Pacific during World War II and was the last ship to be named for Indiana. It was a 35,000-ton South Dakota-class battleship commissioned in April 1942.
