St. Amour appointed head of intellectual property at IURTC

Last week, Brion G. St. Amour was appointed head of intellectual property at the IU Research & Technology Corp., according to a press release.

St. Amour is a registered patent attorney and spent time at two Indianapolis-based law firms before joining IURTC.

He recently served as corporate counsel for patents and technology at a multinational corporation, according to the release.

He holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence from IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law and earned his BS in mechanical engineering from Purdue University.

“Brion’s experience will serve us well,” Marie Kerbeshian, IURTC’s vice president of technology commercialization, said in the release.

“Not only does he know how to obtain patent protection and work well with the law firms that handle our patent work, he brings a corporate mentality to the management of our patent portfolio – from helping us manage our patenting budget to helping us design strong patent portfolios for technology commercialization.”

St. Amour will be responsible for preparing and filing provisional patent applications, according to the release.

He will also be involved with developing and implementing intellectual property strategies with faculty inventors and providing counsel on issues regarding intellectual property of interest to IURTC and IU.

“IURTC provides a unique opportunity to blend the skills learned in private practice to those developed in the corporate environment,” St. Amour said in the release.

“I am excited to work with the team to develop certain operational efficiencies while growing IURTC’s portfolio of strategic intellectual property assets.”
