IU alumni re-elect MaryEllen Bishop

MaryEllen Bishop of Carmel, Ind., has been re-elected to a second three-year term on the IU Board of Trustees by IU graduates, according to a press release.

“I am honored to be able to serve the university for three more years,” Bishop said in the release. “There are significant issues facing IU, and I look forward to joining my fellow trustees and getting back to work. I’d like to thank Ann McGovern for entering the race, increasing the awareness of the election process, and for all that she’s done for Indiana.”

Bishop was initially elected as an IU trustee in 2010, She received 8,216 votes in this year’s election, while challenger McGovern DeLaney received 5,493.

Bishop is a graduate of the Kelley School of Business and the Robert H. McKinney School of Law. She is an attorney with Cohen, Garelick & Glazier in Indianapolis.

“I want to congratulate MaryEllen on earning a second term as trustee,” IU President Michael A. McRobbie said in the release. “MaryEllen is a passionate supporter of the university who has served the interests of our alumni and all our stakeholders very well during her first term on the board. I look forward to her continued counsel over the next three years.”

10,276 online ballots and 3,433 paper ballots were cast by alumni.

IU has a total of nine trustees, three of whom are elected by alumni. Those include Bishop, Philip N. Eskew Jr. of North Webster, Ind., and Patrick A. Shoulders of Evansville.
 
Eskew was elected to a third three-year term last year and Shoulders was elected to a fourth three-year term in 2011.

Gov. Mike Pence appointed the remaining trustees and on June 20, announced former Eli Lilly and Co. CEO Randall Tobias, president of Pacers Sports and Entertainment James T. Morris and IU School of Medicine graduate student Janice Farlow would join the board as new members, according to the release. Morris and Tobias will serve three-year terms and Farlow will serve the customary two-year term as student trustee.

Pence also appointed Derica Rice, chief financial officer for Eli Lilly and Co., to a second term. She will serve a three-year term. All appointments are effective July 1.
