Kayaker dies in Monroe Reservoir

A 70-year-old man died while kayaking in Monroe Reservoir on Friday, according to the Associated Press.

David Kortenhoeven, a Schererville, Ind., resident, reportedly lost consciousness and fell out of his kayak. Another kayaker and a hiker pulled him out of a remote area of the reservoir and performed CPR.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel just after 3 p.m., according to the AP.

The Monroe County coroner is conducting an autopsy.
