Friends of Art Bookshop announces it will remain open

A page has been turned in the story surrounding the Friends of Art Bookshop.

The store will remain open until further notice, as posted to its Facebook page “Save the Friends of Art Bookshop” Thursday.

On Tuesday, FoA President Laurel Cornell announced via email the Bookshop would close due to a University contract issue with Barnes & Noble, but a contract review has indicated the reverse.

“University Legal Counsel has determined that the existence of the FoA Bookshop does not violate IU’s contract with Barnes & Noble,” administrators wrote through the Bookshop’s Facebook page. “Provost Lauren Robel graciously has volunteered to work with the FoA Board over the next several months to determine if there are other issues that need to be addressed. In the meantime, she has assured me that the Bookshop is back to normal.”

A private informational meeting between Friends of Art board members was scheduled for Thursday evening, weather permitting.
