Charges dropped for IDS columnist

Alex Carlisle, the IDS opinion columnist arrested last week, will not have charges filed against him, Interim IU Police Department Chief Laury Flint confirmed Tuesday.

Flint said the Monroe County Prosecutor's Office opted not to file charges at the request of IU Provost and Executive Vice President Lauren Robel, who Carlisle allegedly threatened in a tweet last Thursday. He had initially faced preliminary charges of intimidation, a class-B felony.

Carlisle allegedly tweeted “Kill Provost Robel” alongside a retweet of an @IUonStrike post. In his interview with IUPD officers, he said he was being sarcastic and did not intend the tweet as a threat to Robel. His Twitter account is no longer active.

IDS editors are still reviewing the situation and determining if Carlisle violated the IDS Code of Ethics or employment agreement.
