The IU Board of Trustees will meet Feb. 14-15 at IU-Purdue University Indianapolis’ Campus Center. The trustees are the governing board, legal owner and final authority for IU.
Selection of trustees
Three IU alumni are nominated and elected by their fellow alumni to become trustees.
Five trustees are appointed by the governor.
One student trustee is appointed by the governor.
Term lengths
All non-student trustees serve a term of three years.
The student trustee serves for two years.
Major powers of the Board of Trustees
Set and collect fees, tuition and charges
Acquire, use and improve property, building facilities and equipment
Appoint the president and other officers, including faculty, employees, consultants and counsel
Set conditions and standards of admissions
Institute codes of conduct and disciplinary measures
Attending meetings
Who may attend: Anyone
What attendees may do: Observe, take notes, have signs that aren’t lofted into the air, hand out leaflets
What attendees may not do: Disrupt, block entrances and exits, or exceed room capacity
