IU second baseman Nicholas Ramos was arrested Jan. 20 on two misdemeanor counts of illegal consumption of an alcoholic beverage and public intoxication endangering the person’s life.
Ramos, a freshman from Tampa, Fla., was charged on those counts two days later. He paid a $500 pretrial diversion fee Feb. 1.
A member of the IU baseball team, Ramos was expected to earn significant playing time in 2013, Coach Tracy Smith said.
A program spokesperson said Ramos did not travel with the team and will not participate in this weekend’s Big Ten/Big East Challenge, which will be at multiple sites in the Tampa area.
He could be eligible to return for the team’s first weekend series of the season, Feb. 22-24 at Georgia Southern.
