Current US Representative, Indiana District 6

Pence is a native of Columbus, Indiana. He graduated from Hanover College in 1981 with a degree in American History and earned a degree in law from Indiana University School of Law in 1986. He is a former president of the Indiana Policy Review Foundation. Pence started a statewide radio show broadcast on Network Indiana from 1994 to 1999. From 1995 to 1999, Pence hosted a Sunday morning television show.

Pence was elected to the US House of Representatives in 2000 and served six terms. He served as House Republican Conference Chairman, Chairman of the House Republican Study Committee, on the House Agriculture and Small Business committee. He served on the House Judiciary Committee and Vice-Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Constitution, and on the Foreign Affairs Committee where he is the Vice-Chairman on the Subcommittee on the Middle East and South Asia.

Pence’s policies are billed as his “Roadmap For Indiana.” His goals include increasing private sector employment, attracting new investment to Indiana, particularly in the areas of manufacturing, agriculture, life sciences and logistics, improving the math and reading skills of elementary students, increasing graduation rates, improving the quality of the Hoosier workforce, and improving the health, safety and well-being of Hoosier families, especially children.

In the last gubernatorial debate, Pence stated “I’m running for governor because I have a plan. I think this is no ordinary time in the life of our state. I think if we elect the right leaders at every level, with renewed energy and good ideas, I think Indiana can take our rightful place as the leading state in the Midwest and one of the fastest-growing state economies in the United States of America. I ask for your support on Election Day to help us make Indiana the state that works.”
