Five recognized for service in IU community

IU President Michael McRobbie and IU Foundation President Daniel Smith recognized five individuals within the IU community with 2012 Partners in Philanthropy awards.
The awards, distributed last Thursday, honor volunteers whose service contributes to the future of the University.

According to a press release, honorees received one of three awards for their service: the Cornerstone, Keystone and Herman B Wells Visionary awards.
IU Simon Cancer Center Development Board member Mary Beth Gadus and Franklin D. Schurz, Jr., won the Cornerstone Award, which recognizes individuals for their success with a single philanthropic initiative.

Gadus was given the award in recognition of her support for IU’s cancer research. Schurz was recognized for his contributions to IU-South Bend.

The Keystone Award, given to those who have engaged in multiple IU fundraising efforts, was awarded to IU-Purdue University Columbus adviser John M. Burnett and co-chair of the IU Foundation’s Women’s Philanthropy Council Dale Ellen Leff.

IU alumnus Alan B. Gilman was awarded the Herman B Wells Visionary Award, which is given to individuals who exhibit a lifelong commitment to IU, according to the press release.

Gilman has contributed in various capacities across the University during his 60 years as an alumnus.
