Assistant scientist, IU anthropology department

Munson is an expert of Native American cultures in the Midwest. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona in 1965 and a master’s degree from the University of Illinois in 1971. She ran unsuccessfully for the county council District 2 seat in 2010 and considered but chose not to run in 2012.

“First, the Council decides what county services will be funded and how our tax dollars will be spent. I believe county residents want someone who knows our county to represent them, especially when it comes time to making hard choices on funding county services.

“Second, I have wide experience with budgets. In government, budgets are not just lines and numbers but decisions that affect the lives of our citizens. I have 16 years of budget experience on the Indian Creek Township Board.

“I also bring extensive budget experience from my decades of professional work at Indiana University, where I am an archaeologist and research scientist. While I work in Bloomington, my research has taken me to every corner of this county. I know our hills and hollows, our natural and built environments, what is durable, what is fragile and in need of attention.

“I am available to residents now and in the future to speak with them in person or via phone or email ... When on the Council, I will have monthly constituent meetings to stay in touch with residents about county government issues."
