A Bloomington police officer was involved in a vehicular accident while responding to a 911 call.
Officer Ben Burns was driving west on Third Street to a home where a woman reported a possible unlawful residential entry at about 5:30 a.m. Saturday.
Lt. Faron Lake said Burns attempted to pass another car, over-correcting the steering wheel, and swerved to avoid hitting a median.
Subsequently, he lost control of the vehicle and rode onto the lawn in front of the Bloomington Fire Department, 2201 E. 3rd St., and crashed into a limestone display sign.
Burns was treated for reported back injuries sustained in the accident, Lake said.
Other officers responded to the call Burns was responding to before the accident.
Police determined nobody had breached the residence, Lake said.
