22-year-old man killed after car crashes into tree

Bloomington police are investigating a fatal one-vehicle wreck involving a 22-year-old Bloomington man.

Robert Chapman was driving early Sunday morning along North Kinser Pike just south of Rosewood Drive when his 2001 Oldsmobile collided with a tree, Bloomington Police Lt. Bill Parker said.

Chapman was pinned inside the vehicle when emergency personnel arrived on the scene and had to be extricated from the wreckage.

He suffered head injuries and was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital at about 3:25 a.m., where he was pronounced dead.

Parker said there was no obvious indication as to what might have caused the accident.

Toxicology results are pending and will not be available for several weeks.
