Two IU students took “trick or treat” literally during the weekend.
After allegedly stealing shopping carts full of pumpkins from Kroger at Second and College streets, two 18-year-old IU students have been charged with felony theft, illegal consumption of alcohol and resisting law enforcement.
Bloomington Police Department officers responded to a call at about 12:53 a.m. Sunday that two males had each stolen $54 worth of pumpkins displayed in shopping carts parked outside the store entrance and were headed north on the B-line Trail, Lt. Faron Lake said.
Officers spotted the two with the shopping carts at Third and Madison streets, about three blocks from Kroger. The two abandoned their shopping carts and ran from police, making it to Morton Street between 10th and 11th streets before being apprehended, Lake said.
The shopping carts were returned to Kroger. None of the pumpkins were damaged during the attempted theft.
