Princeton University Director of the Workshop on Arab Political Development Amaney Jamal will present a lecture based on her latest book, “Of Empires and Citizens: Pro-American Democracy or No Democracy at All?” at 7:30 p.m. today at the University Club in the Indiana Memorial Union.
Her lecture will serve as this year’s Wadie Jwaideh Memorial Lecture, an annual event in memory of Jwaideh, the founder of the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures.
Jamal’s research focuses on democratization in the Arab world after the Cold War, according to a press release.
In her latest book, Jamal examined, among other things, how the position of Arab states shapes the public’s attitudes toward their governments, according to a press release.
In addition to other research projects, Jamal has served as a senior adviser for Pew Research Center projects focusing on Islam in America and Global Islam. She was named a Carnegie Scholar in 2005.
The talk is free and open to the public.
