Canadian skateboarding company visits Bloomington

Landyachtz Skateboards, a longboard company based in Vancouver, stopped by Dunn Meadow on Tuesday to give away prizes and promote their business.

Passersby could play a game of plinko and win a variety of goodies. T-shirts, hats and stickers were given away.

Landyachtz came to IU as part of its Midwest Tour lasting from Sept. 7 to Oct. 16.

Just 10 minutes into the event, freshman Adam Ketzenberger won the top prize: a deck, or a longboard without wheels.

Max Vickers, a senior Bloomington High School South, said it was probably worth about $100.

Later in the day, the members of Landyachtz were going to skate with the IU Longboarding club.

Vickers is in charge of events for the club. He said the club is not official, but the group meets once a week to skate. He said he thinks the club will one day be a University-recognized organization.

“I really enjoy the sport, and I like helping people learn longboarding,” he said.
