Unlike the Cutters, Wing It Cycling is taking a completely different approach in the final week compared to its normal training. Team member Abigail Legg said the riders of Wing It have been building their endurance all year through road rides and track workouts, sometimes spending up to five hours on the bike in a day.
Now that their endurance is built up, the week leading up to the race will be for resting and maintaining the work they’ve done. Legg and fellow Wing It cyclists Laura Miller and Melissa Moeller said this is what their week looks like.
Monday
The riders will run small intervals to keep their stamina up. They don’t go too hard to make sure they don’t tire themselves leading up to the race.
Tuesday
Similar to Monday, but a little less. Once again, the riders will go hard enough in their intervals to not lose their conditioning but easy enough to not wear out.
Wednesday
Take it easy. Each rider might do one or two exercises to make sure her legs properly recover, but the focus is to rest and charge for the race.
Thursday
Same as Wednesday.
Friday
Race day
The final days before the women’s race
