Movement for IUSA awaits election confirmation, releases final expenditures

Movement for IUSA will remain a ticket-elect for at least a few more days as the Student Body Supreme Court reviews the election results.

Following the election, Chair of Elections Commission Evan Farrell said it was his job to review all of the votes to make sure there were no discrepancies in the voting system.

But before candidates can be sworn in, the Supreme Court must officially approve election results.

Farrell reviewed all IU Student Association candidates on the ballot after the April 3 and 4 elections, though he said he did find two write-in votes on the ballot. This means that two names were written onto the ballot in addition to the names that were already on the ballot that could be voted on.

Student Drew Lacey received one write-in vote for an off-campus seat, and student Steven Brisley received one write-in vote for the Funding Board seat, Farrell said. He said he contacted both candidates but that they both turned down the positions via email Monday.

Though Farrell has completed most of his duties with the Elections Commission, he said he plans to do one more thing before leaving his position.

“I want to draft a document of recommendation for future election years,” Farrell said.

This document will alleviate some issues that came up this election season when there was only one ticket in the race, Farrell said.

Movement for IUSA was also required to turn in an official financial statement to the Elections Commission, as outlined in the current elections code.

Throughout the ticket’s campaign, it received $803 in donations.

The largest donations received were $250 from Lakeview Construction and $250 from Millennial Services, LLC.

Ticket members also spent $826.11 on the campaign. Their biggest expense was $705.50 for campaign T-shirts.
