Cutters, Wing It Cycling take final practice race before Little 500

The Cutters are slowly but surely gaining momentum for April 21’s Little 500.

After beginning the season with an eighth-place qualifications finish, the team has now won both 50-lap practice races after its victory Tuesday.

Coming in second place was 13th-ranked Sigma Phi Epsilon, while third-ranked Black Key Bulls finished third after placing in second in the first practice race.

Seventh-ranked Sigma Chi, who finished third in the first practice race, did not place in the top three Tuesday.

Two heavy favorites in Delta Tau Delta and Phi Delta Theta both lost their respective chances at finishing in a top spot after crashing during the practice run. Delta Tau Delta has now crashed in both practice races.

As for the women’s side, 11th-ranked Wing It took home the win while sixth-seeded Kappa Alpha Theta finished second. Kappa Alpha Theta led heading into the final lap, but Wing It then took control after the first two turns and won with plenty of room
to spare.

Theta also finished second in the first practice race while Wing It jumped up two spots from their third-place finish last week.

Top-ranked Teter is leading in the Spring Series Events and won the first practice race but did not finish Tuesday after crashing with Delta Zeta halfway through the event.

Although practice races don’t count toward points in the Spring Series Events, teams like to use the races to familiarize themselves with exchanges and racing strategies of other teams.

The next and final event in the Spring Series is Team Pursuit. It will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bill Armstrong Stadium. The women’s final is set to begin at 8:48 p.m. while the men’s is at 9 p.m.
