Water polo team grabs 6 straight wins

With six more victories in the books, IU was on a tear.

The women’s water polo team won six matches in a row at the Roadrunner Invitational the weekend of March 10 at CSU Bakersfield.

In the first win for the Hoosiers, sophomore Shae Fournier added clutch play late to give IU the edge against Long Beach State.

Tied at six with nine seconds left, Fournier connected on a long goal with three-tenths of a second left, giving Indiana a 7-6 victory.

On the same day, the Hoosiers dominated Azusa Pacific. IU reeled off six second-quarter goals, which gave Indiana all the momentum it would need.

The Hoosiers finished the match with a 14-8 victory. In the third match of the weekend, IU was caught in a battle with Wagner.

Up 5-3 going into the final quarter, both teams played shutdown defense in the final period. Wagner converted on a power play with 2:11 left.

However, a late save from senior goalkeeper Cassie Wyckoff sealed the
IU win.

Fournier would come up big again in the team’s final match of the weekend with another game-winner. Wyckoff came up with a late power play save, this time with 45 seconds left.

Off a pass from freshman Colleen McNaught, Fournier won the game again for IU.

Her strike at the 34-second mark would be the final goal of the game, giving IU a 9-8 win against CSU Bakersfield.
