Sheriff's deputy, suspect injured following altercation

Sheriff shot

A sheriff's deputy and a suspect have been transported to the hospital after altercation near Seventh and Adams streets this afternoon, Lt. Bill Parker of the Bloomington Police Department said.

A shot was fired, but it is unclear whether the injuries were a result of the gun shot. Police believe the shot was fired while the suspect was being arrested during an investigation of an unrelated crime. Bloomington police initially reported to the scene, and IU police arrived later.

The suspect was transported to the hospital in custody, and the sheriff was also transported. Parker said conditions and injury details are not available on either.

Bloomington police recovered a semiautomatic weapon during their initial investigation on the scene, Parker said.
