Grizzly Bear singer and guitarist Daniel Rossen’s solo EP “Silent Hour/Golden Mile” holds true to his roots. Rossen and his Grizzly Bear bandmates are known for producing a stylized sound, focusing on each detail to create their well-known melodies.
In his first solo endeavor, Rossen maintains that meticulousness, packing each song with a different sound and feel. The result is an EP that feels more stripped down than his previous collaborative work. Opening track “Up on High” displays a simpler sound, inviting listeners to relax and join Rossen’s ride.
While the EP consists of only five songs, it’s a concentrated work. Opening with a soft track, it then crescendos into a climactic punch at “Return to Form” and resolves with the uplifting finale “Golden Mile.”
Don’t overlook the songs in between these three, either. “Saint Nothing” is an emotional track that nearly drains you before “Golden Mile” resurrects your emotions.
Trust Rossen’s direction — this ride is perfectly crafted and fulfilling.
