The IU Student Media Publications Board met Friday morning in a public forum to elect the students who will be leading the Indiana Daily Student newspaper and Arbutus yearbook in the summer and upcoming fall semester. The event lasted throughout the afternoon.
Board members and observers in the audience were able to ask questions.
The summer and fall editor-in-chief positions are semester appointments, and the Arbutus editor serves throughout the entire school year.
“The whole app process was a little nerve-wracking, but at the same time gave me an opportunity to really define my goals and strategy for the fall,” Charles Scudder, fall 2012 IDS editor-in-chief said. “I’m excited to start building a staff and get everything in order so we hit the ground running when we get back in August.”
The IDS produces its print edition daily throughout the school year and twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays, during the summer.
“Going into pub board, I’ve been to a lot of them in the past and they’ve been fairly intense, so I was pretty nervous going in, but I thought my pub board actually went quite well (and) much better than I expected,” said Jake New, summer 2012 IDS editor-in-chief.
This year’s elected Arbutus candidate, sophomore Rachel Wisinski, ran unopposed.
“I’m not much of a speaker in front of people,” she said. “Now that I was chosen, I’m excited to get started and (to recruit) a staff to help me meet my goals in producing a yearbook that captures IU as it is in 2013.”
