Dumpster aflame near IU School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation

A blanket of flames and smoke consumed the inside and top of the dumpster that sits beside the IU School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation.

Robert Potter, director for the Institute for Communication Research in the College of Arts and Sciences was on his way to view a film at the Whittenberger Auditorium in the Indiana Memorial Union around 6:20 p.m. when he said he saw what appeared to be heat waves emitting from the dumpster.

He spoke to another individual on the scene who agreed that the surrounding area was quickly heating up. Soon after, the flames became visible over the top of the dumpster.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
