Heart attack suspected in accident near Memorial Stadium

William Greene, 58, suffered a fatal heart attack at about 8 a.m. Monday that led to a car accident.

IU Police Department officers, Bloomington Fire Department firefighters and an ambulance crew from IU-Health Bloomington Hospital responded the traffic accident with injury on the east side of the service drive between the orange and purple lots near Memorial Stadium, IUPD Chief Keith Cash said.

When IUPD officers arrived, firefighters were performing CPR on the man, who did not have a pulse and was not breathing, Cash said. Greene was transported to the hospital via ambulance, where he was pronounced dead.

"It is believed that the driver suffered a heart attack, drove off the road and his vehicle came to rest against a tree on the east side of the drive," Cash said.

Greene was a carpenter en route to his first day of work for a subcontractor working on construction at Third Street and Jordan Avenue, Cash said. He was parking his car in the purple lot when he suffered the heart attack.

"Some of the workers park there and are transported to the job site," Cash said.
The damage on Greene's vehicle consisted of paint scrapes to the front right quarter panel.
