Student arrested after four-month investigation by BPD

IU student Aaron Labovitz, 20, was arrested at 3 p.m. Tuesday at his apartment in Smallwood Plaza and will be charged with dealing in a schedule IV controlled substance, a Class C felony.

Sgt. Steve Kellams of the Bloomington Police Department said the arrest was part of a four-month investigation.

In September, Labovitz allegedly bought 20 Xanax pills in a controlled buy from a confidential informant, Kellams said.

Officer Christopher Scott arrested Labovitz after several months of investigation.
“The process is different for every different case,” Kellams said. “Most of our narcotics investigations take several months.”

Kellams said there may have been three to four controlled buys involving Labovitz, but for now he is being charged with only one.

“They did not arrest him on a warrant,” Kellams said. “They arrested him on probable cause, which is pretty common.”

Labovitz was booked in the Monroe County Jail but has since been released on a $1,005 bond.

Kellams said the investigation is ongoing.
