Rumors about Spierer discovery false, Bloomington police report

Rumors being circulated through Twitter about the discovery of Lauren Spierer’s body are false, Bloomington police confirmed this afternoon.

The rumors reportedly stated that the body had been found in Brown County and that a man had turned himself in or been arrested in relation to the case.

“Investigators from the Bloomington Police Department have made contact with law enforcement officials in Brown County who confirm that they are not working anything related to the information being posted,” BPD Captain Joe Qualters said in a press release.

Spierer, then a 20-year-old IU student, disappeared in Bloomington on June 3, 2011, and police have been investigating the case since. Qualters said the case remains under investigation by the department.
